ANNA SWARD, FOUNDER OF THE WEBSITE PROTEINPOW.COM, DESCRIBES HOW TO MAKE THIS ICE CREAM-LIKE HEALTHY TREAT Protein fluff, which is a cold and delicious snack that looks like ice cream, is one of the easiest and quickest things to make with whey protein powder. It requires only three basic ingredients: whey, milk, and frozen fruit. And it can be made in just two steps: blending and (electrically) whisking. You can play around with the recipe as well by using different kinds of frozen fruit, different flavours of whey, and adding different types of milk. It’s hard not to love protein fluff, especially when dieting. Its nutritional content is fantastic and it’s extremely filling. You can eat an entire salad bowl’s-worth of protein fluff and it would still be less than 300 calories! It’s especially good after a long, hot workout too, when eating something cold hits the spot just right. Below are two recipes: one for raspberry and vanilla protein fluff and the other for raspberry and chocolate protein fluff. I urge you to also read the notes for a few suggestions on how you can tweak both recipes and start creating your own extraordinarily delicious protein fluffs. RASPBERRY AND VANILLA PROTEIN FLUFF INGREDIENTS 56 g vanilla whey protein powder 100 g frozen raspberries 70 ml milk Add all ingredients to a bowl and, using a handheld blender, whisk them until you get a smooth texture that resembles ice cream. Then, using an electric whisk, whisk the mix for a further 5-6 minutes until it goes from a deep to a light pink and expands in size. That’s it, done: protein fluff! NUTRITIONAL BREAKDOWN Per bowl: 276.5 kcals, 44 g protein, 10.4 g carbs, 6.5 g fat and 2.7 g fibre RASPBERRY AND CHOCOLATE PROTEIN FLUFF INGREDIENTS 56 g chocolate whey protein powder 100 g frozen raspberries (or blackberries) 70 ml milk DIRECTIONS Same as above. NUTRITIONAL BREAKDOWN Per bowl: 276.5 kcals, 44 g protein, 10.4 g carbs, 6.5 g fat and 2.7 g fibre SUGGESTIONS Try fluffing frozen bananas with vanilla whey. The combination is delicious. Just remember to peel the bananas before you freeze them. You can also fluff frozen carrots with vanilla whey and top it all with cinnamon. The result is a carrot cake-esque protein fluff that’s absolutely sublime, especially if you add some walnuts on top after fluffing. You could also top your protein fluff with coconut flakes, nuts, or even chocolate. In fact, if you pour a bit of melted chocolate on top, the chocolate congeals on impact creating a delicious dark chocolate shell. If you want to make your protein fluffs sweeter, add some Stevia or Splenda to the mix before blending. M&F Anna Sward is a recipe writer and creator of www.proteinpow.com
