Angry tweets lead the market

Listen to the crowd. You can predict the movement of the markets just by looking at what people are saying about certain firms on Twitter. Ilya Zheludev and colleagues at University College London (Scientific Reports, doi.org/rpw), found that analysing sentiment in tweets about popular brands could be used to forecast whether those stocks would rise or fall on the Standard and Poor’s 500 index.
