M&F: You’ve spoken about British rugby being too focused on size. Is there a different attitude in the southern hemisphere?

JH: I do think in this country we’ve gone  a little bit too mad about it because obviously mobility and skill are the most important things. Power and fitness are the ideal rather than out-and-out size. In New Zealand, the strength and conditioning side is still important but it’s not the be-all and end-all. Through my Twitter account I’ve found that young guys here want to know about size and strength, but the first thought over there is to pick up a ball and play touch rugby. Guys like to look after themselves here but playing the game  is more important.
