Fire in the coal

It has been called Australia’s Mount Doom. An open-cut coal mine near the town of Morwell in Victoria has now been ablaze for four weeks. Those who are young, old, pregnant or sick have been urged to evacuate. Firefighters say they have reduced the size of the fire but don’t expect to extinguish it in the “near future".
