Love potion

There is clear value in being  able to fix a broken heart  (15 February, p 26), especially for the battered spouse. At the same time, how about developing an elixir for those whose genes or upbringing, or both, has left them unable to love. Abused children, orphans, and some reoffending criminals might all benefit. I have the misfortune to be  a victim of the health reformer Truby King’s “little-soldiers-forthe-Empire” school of childcare: changed and fed to a rigid 4-hour schedule and put back in my  pram in the garden, cuddles strictly forbidden. Now over  70, with spouse, children and grandchildren, I have never experienced romantic love –  some lust certainly, an occasional attraction, but definitely no attachment. I cannot be alone  in feeling a love philtre is  long overdue. Name and address supplied
