JH: I like to get my conditioning top-up in, so I bolt that on to my sessions once a week. It’s usually off-feet conditioning, such as the Versaclimber or functional fitness with battle ropes and tyre flips. I’ll also do a bit outside. I very rarely do just pure running. Everything I normally do involves some sort of down and up movement, or some kind of action, because in rugby games you’ve got to hit the floor, get back up and sprint upfield. I’ll do something like 10 down and ups, sprint 20 m and then do something else.
M&F: What are your aims for pre-season? JH: From a personal point of view, this pre-season is about
getting as mobile as possible and really strengthening my posterior chain; getting my hamstrings and glutes working and getting my power and running ability back. They’ve been lacking because I’ve been playing non-stop and haven’t been able to focus on them.
