Mitochondrial move

A type of IVF that prevents mothers from passing on faulty mitochondrial DNA is a step closer in the UK and US. Last week, the UK Department of Health released draft guidelines for the procedure. Following a public consultation, the draft will be debated in Parliament later this year. The US Food and Drug Administration also discussed the procedure for the first time.
